"Bringing members together" can be used in many ways, look at steam groups for example. All sorted out and stuff, and who would want to search a member's steam profile for their regiment group if they are just here on the website.
To be honest there doesn't seem like any groups actually use the forums other than "us shako's", it wouldn't really bring members together it would only keep friends in one group for the sole purpose of a tag under their name on the forums.

Just put it in your signature, saves the big forum man from doing pointless work.

not smart

lets force everyone into their own friendship groups so that it's no longer a community and now a band of different friendship groups that no longer communicate with one another.

This is a recipe for groups of players to mass leave when they don't get their way and to fuel community drama between said groups.

I kind of agree, it's an alright idea but in the end it makes it so those who are in a group, stick with their group and those who are not are left out. Neutral for now.
